Robert Pattinson a commencé sa carrière en jouant le rôle de Cedric Diggory dans Harry Potter et la coupe de feu. Plus tard, il décroche le rôle de premier plan d'Edward Cullen dans les adaptations cinématographiques des romans de Stephenie Meyer, Twilight.
Repéré par un agent, Robert Pattinson décroche un rôle dans L'Anneau sacré en 2004, petit téléfilm anglais, où il interprète en 2004 le rôle de Giselher, puis dans The Vanity Fair en 2004 de Mira Nair où il interprète le rôle du fils du personnage de Becky Sharp. Malheureusement, les scènes où Pattinson apparaît sont coupées au montage et seulement disponibles sur les bonus du DVD.
Grâce à son apparition dans Vanity Fair, Robert décroche le rôle de Cédric Diggory dans Harry Potter et la coupe de feu en 2005. Ce rôle lui vaut d'être qualifié de « Star anglaise de demain » délivré par le Times Online. Il est ainsi présenté par plusieurs critiques comme le futur Jude Law.
En 2008, il obtient le rôle d’Edward Cullen dans le premier volet de la saga Twilight, adaptation cinématographique du livre de Stephenie Meyer Fascination, qui sort le 21 novembre 2008 aux États-Unis.
Il se voit aussi proposer plusieurs rôles principaux comme par exemple celui de Salvador Dalí dans le film Little Ashes (2009), ainsi que celui d'Arthur dans How to Be, une comédie anglaise indépendante. Il apparaît également dans un court métrage intitulé The Summerhouse.
En 2009, il joue le rôle de Tyler aux côtés d'Émilie de Ravin dans Remember Me, un drame romantique sorti en 2010.
Il reprend le rôle d'Edward Cullen dans le deuxième volet : Twilight Chapitre 2 : Tentation, le troisième volet Twilight Chapitre 3 : Hésitation, puis dans l'épisode suivant, Twilight, chapitre IV : Révélation, tout en participant au tournage du film Bel-Ami, adaptation libre de l'œuvre de Guy de Maupassant dans laquelle il joue George Duroy aux côtés de Kristin Scott-Thomas et Uma Thurman. Film sorti en février 2012.
Aux côtés de Reese Witherspoon et de Christoph Waltz, il joue en 2011 le personnage principal du film De l'eau pour les éléphants, adapté du livre éponyme. Pattinson y tient le rôle de Jacob Jankovski, qui se prend de passion et se met à suivre une troupe de cirque nommée « The Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth ».
En 2012, il sera également en vedette dans l'adaptation cinématographique à venir de Don DeLillo, Cosmopolis, dirigé par David Cronenberg. Le film a été sélectionné pour concourir pour la Palme d'Or au Festival de Cannes 2012.
En mai 2012, Robert Pattinson a été proposé pour jouer à côté de l'étoile Guy Pearce dans le film The Rover de David Michod en plus du projet en cours de Mission : BlackList de Jean-Stéphane SAUVAIRE. Il est également sur deux autres projets : Map to the Star de David Cronenberg où Robert jouerait aux côtés de Vigo Mortensen et le film The band.

Robert Thomas Pattinson (born 13 May 1986) is an English actor, model, musician, and producer. Born and raised in London, Pattinson started out his career by playing the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Later, he landed the leading role of Edward Cullen in the film adaptations of the Twilight novels by Stephenie Meyer.
Pattinson had supporting roles in the made for television film Ring of the Nibelungs in 2004 and in director Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair, although his scenes in the latter were deleted and only appear on the DVD version.
Later that year he played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. For this role he was named that year's British Star of Tomorrow by The Times and had more than once been touted as the next Jude Law.
In 2008 Pattinson landed the coveted role of Edward Cullen in the film Twilight, based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel of the same name. The film was released on November 21, 2008 and turned Pattinson into an instant overnight moviestar.
After Twilight Pattinson starred in the independent films Little Ashes (in which he plays Salvador Dalí), How to Be (a British comedy), and The Summer House.
He reprised his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon which was released on November 20, 2009 and in The Twilight saga : Eclipse which was released on June 30, 2010.
In 2010, Pattinson executively produced and starred in the film Remember Me, which was released on March 12, 2010. Pattinson reappeared as Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, which was released on November 18, 2011.
In 2011, he starred as Jacob Jankowski in Water for Elephants, a film adaptation of the Sara Gruen novel of the same name, with Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon.
He played Georges Duroy in a film adaptation of the 1885 novel Bel Ami, with Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, and Kristin Scott Thomas. The film had a world premiere at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival and was released on February 12, 2012.
Pattinson will be starring in the upcoming film adaptation of Don Delillo's Cosmopolis, directed by David Cronenberg in 2012. The film has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
In May 2012, Pattinson was cast alongside Guy Pearce to star in David Michod's The Rover. He was also cast to star in the psychological thriller, Mission: BlackList, based on the novel of the same name by military interrogator, Eric Maddox. He is also on two other projects : Map to the Star of David Cronenberg where Robert would play along with Vigo Mortensen and the film The Band.
